Turks and Kurds

Why is it that the US isn't helping the Turks with their Kurd problem, When we've included the PKK on our terrorist list?
It seems that for all the help Turkey has given us in the way of logistical support for both the Afghanistan war and the Iraq war, we're going to turn a cold shoulder to them.
This isn't any way to treat a friend and it is definitely sending a poor message to other countries.
I'm sure this has something to do with the pact we formed with the Kurds when we arranged for northern Iraq to be a safe haven. What the heck, the Kurds are sitting on top of 30% of Iraq's oil reserves.
Looks to me like Greenspan was being honest when he said that this war was all about the oil!

Examining the War

Let's examine some of the reasons the Bush administration has stated were just cause for this war and dissect them. Then lets discuss the REAL reason we went to war.

1. Weapons of mass destruction
Ok, we didn't find any. "We The People" have spend BILLIONS of dollars and lost thousands of lives just to find out what many in the intelligence community knew and told the Bush Administration back in 2003 before the war.

2. Aided Al Qaida
It's been reported in the news that intelligence reports received by the Bush Administration prior to the war, that Saddam didn't aid Al Qaida and that he especially didn't like Osama Bin Laden.

3. Genocide of the Kurds
The Kurds want the northern part of Iraq along with the southern portion of Turkey so that they can create their own country of Kurdistan. In Iraq prior to the war the Kurds were considered insurgents and terrorists, the same they are in Turkey.
The Kurds aided Iran during the Iraq-Iran war and helped Iran invade northern Iraq.
Northern Iraq contains approximately 30% of Iraq's oil reserves. Since Iraq's oil reserves are second only to Saudi Arabia's, we're talking about ALOT of oil!
I'm not saying that Saddam's gassing of these people was the "right" thing to do, and I believe that there should have been a more diplomatic way to negotiate a peace with them, but it seems that, like the Sunni's and Shiite's, they are fanaticals and negotiations fall apart, and military intervention ends up being the only way to somewhat keep the peace.
Kurdistan was captured by the Ottoman Empire back in the early 1500's and later divided between Turkey, Iraq and Syria after WWI by the League of Nations.

After the first Gulf War the Allies created a safe haven in northern Iraq for the Kurds.
Think this might have something to do with the oil they are sitting on?

4. Was seeking to acquire material for nuclear weapons
In Feburary 2002, Former Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson 4th was informed by officials at the Central Intelligence Agency that Vice President Dick Cheney's office had questions about a particular intelligence report. Though Mr. Wilson never saw the report he was told that it referred to a memorandum of agreement that documented the sale of uranium yellowcake . After his investigation Mr. Wilson could find no proof that this transaction ocurred, and Mr. Wilsons own words were " there's simply too much oversight over too small an industry for a sale to have transpired. "

5. Destabilizing the region
Seems to me this war has done more to destablize the region than Saddam was doing.

The State of Our Nation???

Ok, What is the state of the Nation anyways?
Here are the top 5 problems from my view.
Hopefully others will read my blog as I try to come up with way's to help fix them.
1.We're in a war that's costing, "we the people" a FORTUNE.
2.The housing market is in the toilet, without much of a chance that things will be changing in the near future.
3.Affordable health care is nonexistant.
4.Gas is sky high.
5.Unemployment is out of control.
